ANYA appointment

ITANAGAR, June 15: The Achung Yumlam led group of All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA), in a meeting today, reshuffled its central executive committee and appointed new office bearers for the year 2011-13.

While Mukam Avinash and Kipa Nib were appointed as vice presidents, protocol and administrative respectively, Acha Binde was appointed as Secretary General. Kholi Yama was appointed as the association’s women wing president.

 

Awareness campaign

ITANAGAR, June 15:  All Arunachal Pradesh Border Peace Association (AAPBPA)  decided to conduct awareness  campaign in Assam-Arunachal boundary area on border related issues in the last week of this month.   The Association also expanded its  executive body with appointments of four executive members.

 

Union concerned at bus fare

ITANAGAR, June 15: Arunachal Pradesh  Scheduled Tribe Students Union(APSTSU) has expressed concern over high rise in the bus fare of Arunachal Pradesh State Transport Service(APSTS). In a release union urged transport department to reduce bus fare for the benefit of the poor citizen.

“Majority of poor villagers can’t afford taxi services and so they depend on APSTS buses for transportation. However recently department has increased bus fare and now poor villagers are finding it hard to afford it,” Union stated. Further union called on transport department to implement concession policy meant for ST students and officegoers in the best of spirit. They also advocated for free travel of handicapped person in the APSTS bus. Taking strong exception to non-availability of bus service in major parts of state, union drew attention of transport department towards pain and agony of poor villagers. Citing example of Aalo to Mechuka/Monigaon and Seppa to Chyangtajo where there is no bus service, union said that there are many more such routes where transport bus service is non-presence and ordinary citizens are facing acute problems. “State government, in particularly the transport department should immediately take not of these problems and take necessary steps,” APSTSU demanded.

 

Nime Ashram excels in CBSE exam

ITANAGAR, June 15: Nime Ashram School, Old Ziro excelled in CBSE Class X examination for the second time this year with three students securing A1 in all subjects with CGPA 10. Out of the 10 appeared, three students, namely Nich Agu, Pura Rissang, Arjun Laa, have secured A1 in all subject with CGPA 10 while the CGPA of 4 students were more than 9 and the CGPA of the rest 3 were above 8, the principal of the school informed.

 

FIR lodged against activist

ZIRO, Jun 15: An FIR was lodged today against former AAPSU general secretary and social activist Ojing Tasing for allegedly  threatening Aane Siang RTI Activist Forum General Secretary Ungkung Regon over phone with dire consequences for not withdrawing a Ruksin Police Station case (No.04/11/U/S 409/468/471/34 (IPC) R/W-Section 13 (C) PC Act.).

The FIR lodged in the office of Superintendent of Police, Special Investigation Cell, PHQ, Chimpu, Itanagar, said that the threat call was allegedly received by Regon on the night of June 14, a day after he lodged statement before Deputy Superintendent of Police, SIC (Vig.) regarding the Ruksin PS case.

It appealed to the police to bring the culprit to book under appropriate section of law for his deliberate attempt to hamper the ongoing investigation by using all illegal tactics which is a serious offence. It further appealed to the authorities concerned to provide security to RTI activists.

 

Condolences

ITANAGAR, June 15: All Arunachal Pradesh Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery Cadre Welfare Association (AAPANMCWA) deeply mourned  the death of Yalum Tamut, ANM, who  died in a bike accident on her way from Tezu Hospital to her home on June 7  morning. Late Tamut joined the nursing service as ANM in 1995.  She left behind three sons and her husband.

The staff of the rural works sub-division, Karsingsa  headed by AE Er Rido Allo deeply mourned the untimely demise of S M Roy, driver of the sub-division who died on June 9.

 

Social service

ITANAGAR, June 15:  All Tali Area Students Union (ATASU) in its meeting held here today decided to conduct social service at Govt Secondary School, Tali in the second week of July next. The union also resolved to solve the long pending boundary problems of the school during the social service and sought cooperation of all including youth and students of Tali area.

 

Union demands action

ITANAGAR: All Mori-Nyigong Banggo Students Union of Upper Siang  district has demanded enquiry into the alleged illegal allotment of huge quantity of BPL/AAY rice to an FPS, Simar, Yingkiong where there is no BPL/AAY beneficiaries.

While supporting the group of PDS consumers who had lodged an FIR against Yingkiong DF&CSO for his alleged illegal allotment of PDS items, the students Union criticized the authorities for not taking action against the officer till date.

The union further demanded replacement of present DF&CSO with efficient one.

In its letter to the Chief Secretary on May  23, the group of 7 people of Upper Siang  had said that an FIR has been lodged against the said officer for alleged  illegal  allotment of PDS item. They further said that efficient officer who can deliver justice to the people be posted in place of present incumbent as early as possible.

 

UAEA pleads

ITANAGAR: Expressing resentment over non-advertisement of JE posts in various departments like PWD, RWD, WRD and UD and Housing, the Unemployed Arunachal Engineers’ Association (UAEA)   has urged the authorities concerned not to extend the services of contractual appointees. It further said that the officers who were posted in other departments on deputation  basis should be called back.

Meanwhile, the Association urged the private construction companies to engage tribal youths as per APST reservation quota.

The damaged road ahead

ITANAGAR, June 15: Just few months ago under Jawarharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission renovation of NH-52(A) was carried out amidst much expectations. Motorists were harassed as renovation work during peak hour caused heavy traffic jam across the capital road.  But UD and PWD department kept on urging public to bear few days of difficulty for better future and claimed that repairing will change the face of capital. However contrary to their claims, the roads in all major stretches of capital have started to break down. Few days of rain in recent week has exposed all tall claim of departments and potholes have dangerously developed. Crores of money has been pumped in for renovation of capital road but result is there for everyone to see. Is this not the wastage of public exchequer? Beside NH-52(A), sector roads of capital complex also need urgent attention. Unattended debris and potholes is causing problem for the residents and motorists too.

 

NCDC assures release of fund for ICDP projects in Arunachal

ITANAGAR, June 15: The National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) assured acceleration of ICDP part-II implementation and release of subsidies and remaining installments for the ongoing projects in Arunachal Pradesh. The NCDC managing director Govindan Nair gave this assurance  during  an interactive meeting  the parliamentary secretary, cooperation, Nido Pavitra had with him and NCDC executive director G P Gupta at New Delhi on June 14 last.

While assuring to consider the proposals under direct funding or through state Govt, the MD said that the cooperative movement of Arunachal Pradesh has emerged as the torch bearer in entire north east states. Nair showered praises on Pavitra for his untiring efforts to make the cooperative movement vibrant and hoped that achievement of Arunachal Pradesh will inspire all other NE states.

Nair also mourned the  untimely demise of former chief minister late Dorjee Khandu and wished that new government will carry forward the vision  and mission of late Khandu government, particularly in development of cooperative sector.

Pavitra, who was accompanied by MARKFED managing director S Laskar, gave a detailed overview of cooperative movement and spelt out potential and priority areas of cooperative movement  which include sectors like rural housing, tourism, stone crushing activities, hospital and hospitality service, micro finance, tea and piggery, poultry, dairy, mycro hydel, agri marketing.

 

Seppa faces power crisis, MLA asks state govt to intervene

SEPPA, June 15: Seppa, the district headquarter of East Kameng district, has been reeling under acute power shortage ever since the power channel of Pacha Micro Hydel got damaged on 18th of April last.  

Understanding the gravity of the problem being faced by the denizens of Seppa Township, local MLA Tapuk Taku paid a visit to the Hydel on 13th of June along with officials of Hydropower department and ZPM Buru Sangyu.

During the visit, it was observed that about 30 metre length power channel of Pacha Micro Hydel got severely damaged on 18th April. The restoration work had started on war footing manner two days later under the supervision of D Ete, Assistant Engineer.

Quoting the power department officials, Taku informed that ‘poor work quality’ was the cause of damage and that the whole channel needed special repairing.  

“The power channel got seepage owing to which the water cannot reach the reservoir. The cause of such mishap is reported to be from poor work quality”, he added.    

In a press statement today, Taku sought immediate financial assistance from the State government for early and over all repairing of the 3 megawatt Hydel. He opined that timely and adequate fund by the government would expedite the repairing work and would assuage the power crisis of Seppa town and its vicinity.  

The first timer MLA also emphasized on close coordination among officials of Hydropower Department (civil and E &M wing) and Department of Power; and owning of responsibilities by each concern departments for better service delivery.  He also stressed on proper drinking water supply in the township and asked the PHED to ensure that the water supply reaches to each locality as per the requirement without being curbed midway due to faulty or improper placement of water pipes.  At the same time, Taku asked the government to sanction adequate fund so that demand for drinking water supply is met for the mushrooming population in Seppa town.

On drainage system, he informed that about 60% of work is completed and rest would be taken up when remaining/additional fund is sanctioned. He asked the concern department to ensure that the already constructed drainage system do not get damaged in due course of time, through constant monitoring.

 

Bye-election for Mukto constituency announced

ITANAGAR, June 15: The election commission of India has decided to hold the  bye-election for 3-Mukto ST Assembly Constituency on July 14. The seat fell vacant after the death of Late Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu who died in a chopper crash on April 30.

With the announcement of election, the provision of the model code of conduct has come into force in Tawang District from June 14 and shall be effective till the completion of election.

The commission further directed to all the departments to take note of the model code of conduct and added that any violation of the instruction regarding ban on transfer of officer/ officials connected with conduct of election, payment out of discretionary fund and guidelines on model code of conduct for political parties and candidates will be viewed very seriously and necessary action would be taken on each case of violation.

Last date of nominations is June 27 while the scrutiny would be on June 28 and last date of withdrawal of candidature is June 30.  The votes would be counted on July 18.

The election, if any, would be just a formality as the Pema Khandu, the son of Late Khandu who has been made the Tourism and WRD minister in Jarbom Gamlin ministry is sure to represent the constituency.

 

ANSU questions Thakur bail

ITANAGAR, June 15: All Nyishi Students Union (ANSU) expressed serious concern over report that TOI journalist Pradeep Thakur who had tarnished the image of Nyishi community has been granted bail by Guwahati high court.

ANSU asked whether Pradeep Thakur was ever arrested and the state government lawyers did not oppose his bail plea.

Union had halted movement against Pradeep Thakur after assurance from Nyishi legislators that they will take up the case with state government for which 20 days  starting from June 1 was given.

The Union said that with few days left for the expiry of the given date, it is yet to hear anything from the Nyishi legislators committee formed to look into the case.

The Union further said that if Legislators committee does not come up with satisfactory report, ANSU will be compelled to start strong democratic movement in all Nyishi dominated areas.

 

Muskan sponsored training prog ends, more on offing

ITANAGAR, Jun 15: The three months tailoring and two months beauty culture and healthcare courses for unemployed women and girls conducted by Muskan Welfare Society (MWS) at Oju Mission Center, Naharlagun concluded successfully.

Thirty unemployed girls and women undertook the tailoring course while 20 others successfully completed the beauty culture and health care courses.

These employment oriented courses aimed at making women self reliant were fully sponsored by Muskan Welfare Society (MWS) led by first lady of the state Anupama Singh.

These courses were not only free of cost, but the women were also given a stipend of Rs. 50 each per working day. All the costs of raw materials and equipments were borne by the MWS. The two  master trainers of the courses were also given remuneration of Rs. 5000 each.

With the help of these courses, MWS aims to make the underprivileged girls, women and unemployed youth self reliant and help them pursue a income generating career. Oju Welfare Mission, led by Dr. Durgabai Deshmukh Awardee, Binny Yanga, who herself is a member of the Muskan Society, provided the venue for the successful conduct of the courses for which the beneficiaries were awarded certificates of successful participation.

Earlier, the chairperson of MWS donated clothes for the kids of Oju Mission.

MWS member secretary Christine Wanglet informed that the second batch of the same courses would begin in the first week of July.

 

Laparoscopic cum RCH camp held

Aalo, June 15: A Laparoscopic cum RCH camp was held at Community Health Centre Basar on  July 10 and 11.

The doctors Goter Doke, V. Parimol, Senbom Tatu, Gojir Riba, Dagir Basar and paramedical staff carried out 42 lap ligation, 44 Hep Ag test, 21 VDRL test, 44 HIV and 44Hb% in the two days medical camp besides other treatments to the patients.

The camp was inaugurated by Dr. Sachin Shinde, ADC Basar in presence of Dr. Bomjum Kamki DMO, PRI leaders, Goan Buras, ASHAs, members of the Women Welfare Society Basar, the camp team and publics.

Dr. Moli Riba District Family Welfare Officer, West Siang explained the aim and objectives of the laparoscopic cum RCH camp and various treatments/activities to be carried out during the camp like Hepatitis-B screening through Hepatitis-B testing kits, Hb% estimation, BT, CT urine sugar.

 

Workshop on cane and bamboo crafts

ITANAGAR, June 15: A 15 days design and technical development workshop on cane and bamboo crafts began at Baki village under Siyum circle in Upper Subansiri district today.  The workshop is being organized by the Orphan Trust Society (OTS) and sponsored by development commissioner, (handicraft) under union ministry of textiles.

Earlier, a three-month training on innovative design on artistic tribal textiles (skill up-gradation) began at the same village with intake capacity of 10 number of women artisans on June 10 last.

Ajay Bhattacharjee, designer from the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), NER, Guwahati and Ajim Ali, Master Craftsmen from Barpeta, Assam are the master trainers in the trainings. The training programme will enhance the quality, quantity, techniques, processes and innovative designs of products to meet the present market demand of cane  and bamboo crafts and artistic tribal textile.

The chief guest Taga Ekke, BDO-cum-CO, Siyum, guest of honour Tamen Singkom, ASM, Baki village and resource persons Take Mosu, Dy. Director Textiles and Handicrafts, Daporijo spoke on the occasin. Ajay Bhatacharjee, Designer of DC(H)  was another resource person.

Tapa Baki, Chairman, OTS highlighted  the achievement of the society.

 

 

The embarrassing situation

Dear Editor,

It’s the Weigh of Ignominy for the state that it has no Engineering (B.Tech) and Medical (M.B.B.S) college yet of their own.

It’s been dream for every parents to see their children as  an Engineer / Doctor and still it is! But, because of non-establishment of college for such subjects in the state, some of the parent’s dreams remain dream only. I am bewildered that why Our Govt. and well wishers are not showing interest.

And those who have got chance to do the course in other states are put to shame by getting a harrowing question from the class mates: “Why did you came here, all the way from Arunachal Pradesh? Don’t you have college in your own state?

To answers these silly questions I become’’ Liar’’ so as not to put down my motherland’s name.

Hoping that, the Govt. and well wishers of the state shall step forward to turn those dreams into reality and also, shall not let patriot Arunachalee students to be embarrassed.

The walk in interviews

Dear Editor,

I would like to write about walk in interviews conducted by some departments. The board members constituted by department do not ask questions pertaining to advertised post that one has applied for. They will ask you about something else and they will criticize too after you have answered it. Tired of giving walk in interviews, I would like to express my agony at the conduct of such interviews.  They must follow the norms and regulation.

Lastly I would like to request the concerned department that if you do well, then you will get good.

Planning Commission and cars!

Now that the Planning Commission has approved for ` 3200 crores annual plan for Arunachal Pradesh, I guess we should expect to see Audi, Mercedes, jaguar, BMW and if blessed the Rolls Royce and Bentley also in our state by the end of this year. Well I am just being sarcastic and I am just saying.

Fee structure itself is a tough admission criteria to fulfill

Dear Editor,

The ANSU deserves appreciation for taking up the issue of education of the underprivileged. It has become a trend for most of the schools nowadays to shun admission seekers who perform poorly in the interviews/ admission tests. The bulk of rejected students are dumped onto the already saturated state run government schools. It is an easy guess now, as to why these 'samaritan' schools outperform the overburdened Govt schools. The original mission of the missionary schools has diluted over the years. Why don't they seek out the dullest and poorest child, polish them and then proclaim themselves? As for the KVs and JNVs, it appears that they have been exempt from the purview of Right to education act. The tough screening tests are best left for colleges and technical institutions viz. the IITs and IIMs. The fee structure is another deterrent and in itself is a tough admission criteria to fulfill. I hope the ANSU will persevere with this issue.
